Who can apply?
Blairtummock Housing Association maintains an open waiting list. This means you, or anyone aged 16 years or over, can apply to us for housing.
How to apply?
To make things easier for you we now have a joint Application for Housing form with Provanhall Housing Association. This means you can apply to one or both Associations by filling out just one form.
You can fill out the Application for Housing online by clicking here. Applying online is the quickest and simplest way for you to apply, if you prefer you can download and print out the Application for housing by clicking here. Once you have filled it out please hand it into, or post it to, our office, forms are also available from our office. If you need any assistance to complete it, please ask our staff, they will be happy to help you fill out your form. You can also request a form to be posted to you by phone, text, email, via the websites or in writing.
What happens next?
We will write to you within 10 working days of receiving your form. This letter will tell you how we have assessed your application. See more information about this below.
How do we assess your application for housing?
Applications are assessed under our Allocations Policy. Our policy follows the principals of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 to ensure reasonable preference for housing is given to persons who:
- Are homeless or threatened with homelessness;
- Are living under unsatisfactory housing conditions;
- Are occupying overcrowded houses;
- Are living in sub-standard accommodation
Our Allocation Policy is based on the following 4 groups and waiting time. Waiting time simply means the applicant who has waited the longest on each group would be offered rehousing. Your application will be placed into 1 of the following 4 groups depending on your housing need and other factors. We will no longer be using a points system:
- General Need
- Community, Social and Family
- Socio-Economic Balance
- Homeless and Serious Housing Need
Will I get an offer of rehousing?
Demand for our homes is far larger than the number of empty homes that become available to offer you or other applicants. Please be aware we are simply unable to meet the needs, demands and aspirations of the majority of applicants on our housing list. However the benefit to you and other applicants of the waiting time policy is that no-one who applies after you in your group will be made an offer of rehousing before you.
How will I get an offer of rehousing?
Applicants with the longest waiting time in 1 of the 4 groups will be offered a suitable empty home first. When you are at the top, or near the top, of your group staff from the Association will visit you at home to make sure we have all your up to date information; for example, proof of residency and employment. Tenancy checks will also be carried out with current/previous landlords. Only once this has all been done will you be able to receive an offer of rehousing.
What other housing options do I have?
Please contact the office so we can give you advice on other Housing Options that may be available, or even more suitable, to your needs and circumstances. This may include telling you about: applying to other local social landlords, applying for a Mutual Exchange with another tenant, accessing the private rented sector or the various low cost home ownerships schemes available.
